Abstract
Das Deutsche Historische institut in Rom (weiter DHIR) ist das älteste aller Deutschen Historischen Institute im Ausland. es wurde im Jahre 1888 als eines in einer ganzen Reihe von historischen Forschungsinstituten europäischer Staaten gegründet, nachdem Papst Leo XIII. im Jahre 1881 die Archive des Vatikans für die Forschung geöffnet hatte.
