Abstract
Beyond the Catastrophes: The Present State and Prospects of the Research of Contemporary German History.
This paper is based on author’s public lecture delivered for the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Westphalian Institute for Regional History in Muenster on March 18, 2004. It provides an overview of the research of contemporary history in German. It explains the impact of the dramatic events of the twentieth century on the German historiography.
