Abstract

Airstrike in Kunduz: A Fundamental Change in Germany’s Afghanistan Debate?

This article focuses on to what extent has the German public debate on the ISAF mission in Afghanistan in general and German deployment in particular changed following the September 4, 2009, airstrike in Kunduz. It explores wider ramifications of the deadly attack, ordered by a German NATO commander. Attention is given to the consequences associated with the Kunduz airstrike, particularly its impact on the decline in public support for German involvement in Afghanistan.
